Being an avid fan of history and all things related to its connection with civilization, I could not but pick this book up on my last trip to India. It has made for fascinating reading, especially the initial chapters on the origin of India, Hindusim and its impact on the growth of the country. I do have to admit though that I kind of lost steam once it crossed from the early ages to the middle and modern era. I will have to go back now and complete up on my reading :-)
Interestingly, I have always been at crossroads trying to understand the connection between the origin of hinduism and it's ties to the growth of India as we know it. Hinduism has always been viewed mystically by almost anyone who has not had an experiential perspective on it. As a matter of fact, if you were to ask a Hindu what it means to be one, chances are no two answers will be the same!
