Punjabi By Nature

I had a friend over for dinner last night, who had just returned from India after a 4 year long hiatus. Suffice to say, he was more than surprised to see the changes that have taken place in his absence! Here is a trivia flash; when you get a bunch of indians together and they start reminiscing about the good old days, the conversation invariably turns to food, Indian food! I remember the last trip I made, it was as hectic as could be on a trip that is supposed to be a vacation. My wife is a punjabi and hails from Delhi while I am from Chennai. Live Maps puts the distance at 1280 miles and its roughly 3 hours flying time between the two cities. In a span of two weeks, we made two round trips between Delhi and Chennai in addition to a 40,000 mile roundtrip journey from KC to Delhi.

What I love about being married to a punjabi (apart from a punjabi kudi) is the food and the social nature of being one. Eating is just not an exercise in their (now mine Wink) part of the world. It is a process to be savoured, enjoyed and experiencing all the flavors that go with the food.

I have to point to one of the best culinary experience I have ever had at Punjabi by Nature. Will post pics to spice it up in the follow up!

MOSS 2007 - Real life Workflow mapping - Part I

It's amazing to see how MOSS built in workflows are so in tune with what you would see happening in business processes real time. I have only scratched the surface with OOTB workflows for Content Approval for the project that I am working on, but am a believer already!

Below is a scratch of what we used to model the existing business process as it related to WCM approval.

Initially, after an intense discussion, this was what came out of the thinking behind what we needed to have within MOSS. After further deliberations and some wringing of hands and heads, it condensed down into three custom settings in a serial workflow with appropriate groups and notifications! More details to follow in my next post!

Random Browsing

Ever go through times when you open a browser, and for lack of a more useful (or useless) need, just keep typing different characters on the address bar? It happens every time I have aimless itches, want to browse but dont have any sites or pages in mind.

I was going through one of those phases, when I came across this link on Web Analytics. It's an interesting read on Web Anals and for the uninitiated, Wikipedia has a good summary...

 Happy Reading!
