Upcoming Events

It's hard to believe that 2 months in the new year have already flown by! Hope ya'll are having a great year, just like me :)

I will be speaking at this month's Kansas City Office Geeks monthly user group meeting (Thursday, March 4) at Centriq over by 87th and State Line from 6 to 8 PM.

The topic is quite exciting and deals with WCF and SharePoint 2010. Nothing too techie, more an outline of how the SharePoint core service architecture is built upon WCF to provide a robust and highly flexible Service Application Model. Check out the USGS site for more information.

I am also signed up for Coders 4 Charities (C4C) this year although given the commitments at home and work, I am not sure how much I can contribute. It does like it is shaping up to be a blockbuster event.

If you are free and would like to spend some time for the community, check it out!

blogging hiatus and SPC 2009

It has been a while since I had a chance to post about anything at all and even though I'd love to say that it was due to a sabbatical or something relaxing, the truth is, I have been busy!

And I mean, BUSY! I started on a new project late July with WCM and some fancy Design/Architecture stuff for a regular client that has kept my grey cells humming. To top it off, on the home front, the wife and I are expecting a new arrival soon here! It's our first and it has been an INTERESTING experience so far. More on that later, though...Smile

Right now, I am getting ready to set up a list of things to do, people to meet and questions to ask for SPC 2009. I am very excited to be going to one of the biggest MS events of the year and certainly THE BIGGEST SharePoint Conference ever!

Here are some of the things running through my mind as I write this:

  • Reach out to the local SP community and figure out who is going and what are they thinking of doing out at Vegas!
  • Make a cheat sheet of sessions that are focal to my objectives and scope them out
  • Make a list of SharePoint MVPs and SME's I would love to meet. Hopefully, not be too tongue-tied in the presence of such excellence Wink

I am sure there will be additions as the week goes by.

In the meantime, I am also looking forward to SharePoint Saturday KC in December. The event is gathering a life of its own and I hope it is as fun (if not more) as last year. I am volunteering for the event in any capacity as needed and want to see more folks there this year.

On a sidenote, I have been gathering tips and tricks on all the interesting and wierd things that SharePoint WCM has thrown at me the past two months. A blog post series will shortly follow detailing some of my adventures on that...!

Till then, stay tuned............!

SharePoint Saturday Chicago, June 13th

I am scheduled to be presenting on MOSS DMS Implementation and Content Migration Strategies for SharePoint Saturday @ Chicago this coming Saturday. I have a gut feeling this event is going to be HUGE! Both for me and the event Wink

My topic is on MOSS Implementation and Content Migration strategies geared towards a Document Management System as a real life case study. I have never had a knack for titling presentations so they are indicative of the kind of content that goes with it. So hopefully, this one makes sense!

“Have you been tasked with taking ownership on a MOSS infrastructure that you know nothing about and making it work effectively?”
“Are you considering taking an existing MOSS environment to the next level and worried about what that entails?”
“Are you faced with a design and planning challenge in overhauling a deployed MOSS architecture?”
“Do you want to know what your options are for transitioning a Sharepoint application from a hosted model to a dedicated infrastructure?”

If the answer to any of the questions above is a "Yes", then this session is for you. Come learn about the common issues faced by organizations that are either considering MOSS deployments or have one in place that they would like to re-engineer. The topics covered include analysis of an existing deployment, common pain points in a content migration/transition, planning for a new environment based on content and sizing requirements and other tidbits that will make your job easier!

I hope to see some known faces out there. Check the SharePoint Saturday Chicago site out for more information!

Cheers!

Roger Federer, I am a believer!

I have to admit that I was wrong. Like many of the doubters, I was led to think that maybe it was the beginning of the end for Roger Federer, the greatest tennis player in the modern open era.

However, this is one time I am GLAD I was wrong. It cannot get any better than this for Roger! Until, of course, he wins the next Wimbledon, the next U.S open and goes on to surpass Pete's record! What a record that would be. I cannot wait to watch those finals.

In the meantime, here are some of the first, live-breaking pictures of the star in (e)motion!

Facepalm Syndicate @ Coders 4 Charities Kansas City

Awesome! The word that encapsulates my first experience @ Coders 4 Charities 2009. The Facepalm Syndicate team (as we called ourselves) was a force at work, round the clock, for the Kansas Family Advisor Network (KFAN).

Check out the fruits of our effort...the site before we started
